Choose a Grocery Merchandising Partner That Strengthens, Not Replaces, Your Team

Outside support delivers the most value when it supports the long-term success of your store.

Tools and plans work best when the team understands the reasoning behind them and the big-picture objectives ahead of it. That is why at Radian, we are committed to a process that combines technology with hands-on grocery expertise and support for when plans need to shift to keep up with fast-changing market conditions.

The proper scaffolding allows grocery teams to build programs that can bend instead of break. Our approach is built on practical guidance and ongoing support; we develop strategies that help teams protect margin, improve category performance, and keep plans grounded in the business’s reality—even when that reality continues to change. Those are also the qualities we believe matter most when evaluating a merchandising partner.

Training is Not Enough

A strong partner should do more than teach your team how to use tools, data, and analytics before leaving. True partners sit in planning meetings, build plans alongside you, and lead the discussion when needed. This allows everyone to see how tools, data, and insights are applied in real-world situations such as merchandising, pricing, and promotions, equipping them to adjust store-level execution accordingly.

At Radian, our support evolves with your team. The goal is neither to build total dependence on a partner nor to be left without needed support. A strong partner helps your team build capabilities, then remains available for questions when priorities shift, a new challenge emerges, or a planning cycle exposes a gap. Needing more or a different type of support is part of the process. It does not signal failure, and it should not require a new contract. The right partner should be able to provide the level of involvement your business needs at each stage.

Specificity Drives Execution

A plan to improve margin cannot stop at “raise prices” or “promote more effectively.” It should define the exact sales, margin rate, and item-count guardrails that each decision must meet. For example, a broad price increase may improve margin on paper but also weaken price image, reduce volume, and hurt traffic. A stronger plan identifies the items where customers are less price-sensitive and stages the increases over several weeks. It also ensures the added margin is either captured directly or reinvested into targeted promotional activity, without undermining category performance.

A trusted partner provides recommendations that translate broad goals into specific decisions, thresholds, timing, and trade-offs – and gives your team enough detail to execute.

Measurement Keeps the Plan Accountable

The right partner explains how a recommendation will be measured before implementation begins—not simply report results after the fact.

At Radian, we build measurement into the work from the start. For example, we may identify a group of items for which the retailer can increase prices without weakening its overall price image. We stage those increases over weeks rather than changing every item at once for your shoppers. From day one, we track sales, unit volume, and margin against the original projection. In practice, the results may reach 80% to 90% of the projected gain. A good partner will investigate the gap, identify factors such as overlapping promotions, competitive price moves, or store-level timing, and determine what should change next.

That level of visibility shows where the recommendation is working and where the plan needs to be refined. It also allows for adjustments grounded in actual category performance rather than assumptions.

Choose a Partner That Stays Engaged

Our role is not to replace the judgment and experience already on your team nor to hand over a recommendation and leave them to solve the execution details alone.

We stay close enough to step in when a planning cycle stalls, category performance shifts, or market conditions change. We step back when the team has what it needs. That level of support can expand or contract over time, but the commitment stays the same. We are here to help your business keep moving forward.

Look for a partner who cares about your business as much as you do—and puts in the time and energy to show it.
